Somewhereset's finest....
Added at 19:15 on Friday 19th August 2016
A group of local anglers enjoyed Ashmead last week. Always great to see local lads on the water and it's even better when they catch a few carp. The highlight was when Martin arrived with his young Lanner Falcon called Maverick, who cast an umpire's eye over Jack Holt's weighing of one of Ashmead's slate grey commons. Not something you see every day! Graham landed Opal at mid-thirties on floating crust and the biggest common of the week was JC which quite rightly fell to Shaun Barrell, to cap off his birthday week in style.
Moonscale

Spence with Moonscale at 46lb 4oz.... Slightly old news from a week or so back but this shot of one of Ashmead's characters is too good to miss and it captures the spirit of a great few days on the lake for Spence and his mates.
The future's bright......

I fished with my youngest son Alistair last night and he caught three carp; nothing big but these two photographs capture the future of Ashmead and our fishery management perfectly..... Two young mirrors spawned naturally in the lake and set to grow into the monsters of the future; It's all about long-term management and building something of real and lasting value.
For the record, the fully-scaled fish weighed a little over five pounds and the chunky mirror a little over ten. Alistair weighed about eighty-five!
I thought I recognised Ali's double from last night; a mirror I caught in January 2015 at two and a half pounds. The little fully-scaled fish is a new one but I suspect I know which carp was its mother!
Welcome to the new Ashmead Fishery website.....

I really enjoyed this weekend with the relaxed and friendly atmosphere that is so special at Ashmead. Spencer Wright landed Moonscale at 46 plus, Greg Colman landed four fish to 27 plus and Jack Petit landed this beautiful long 25-pounder. Good fishing in tricky conditions, with the carp feeding hard on naturals.
Just as exciting, the new Ashmead Fishery Website went live this weekend. We are thrilled with the outcome of a great deal of hard work by Martyn Skoyles of Hooked on Websites. A great bit of website design that shows off the fishery and its inhabitants superbly. We hope you enjoy browsing its pages.
Single Scale....
Added at 17:10 on Wednesday 18th May 2016
This morning Simon Croft caught Single Scale and it was a thrill for both of us. She weighed 56 pounds 14 ounces and was in pristine condition as always. Earlier in the week he also landed the Long Common at 39.10, so that's some brace; a personal best common and mirror!
I've been wandering around the Ashmead channels all day, smiling and reflecting on the way the wetland shows how good fisheries management and conservation can work hand in hand, to provide a special environment that can make dreams a reality..... Well done Si! Great angling.
Jason's first Ashmead 30.

Jason had at least twenty good carp cruising and feeding in front of his swim yesterday evening... This morning he landed his first thirty from Ashmead; a lovely 32.04 common.
The arrival of Spring...

Greg Colman rounded of a lovely winter syndicate season on Ashmead with commons of a tad over thirty and a smidgin over twenty.... It's been a fantastic winter and we've really enjoyed sharing Ashmead with a lovely bunch of guys. Thanks for your support!
The prospect of Spring

Generations..... Just home from a wonderful two nights at the lake. I caught a lovely 25 pound mirror and a young 7 pound mirror that could have been it's offspring. Then my eldest son Iain showed his old man the way, with a lovely 27 pound common that fought like a demon. A short trip enriched by Ashmead generations; present and future.
To cap off a lovely couple of days, my friend Paul then landed a superb 25 pound common... If I designed a perfect carp from scratch I think it would look a little bit like this. The buds on the weeping willows have burst into leaf, the cherry trees by Tom's Pond are in blossom and the Ashmead carp are waking up: Spring is on it's way.
