It's not every week we see a new forty pounder.....

This week has been tough fishing with the high pressure bringing hot days, cold nights and misty autumnal dawns... Whilst the arrival of autumn has been beautiful (especially the "blood moon" earlier in the week), it hasn't been ideal from a fishing perspective.
Gavin Lancaster landed the only big carp of the week but what a carp! Patience and some careful angling paid off with this fabulous 41lb 6oz common.

Every now and again I see a piece of angling that really impresses me...
We've had a fantastic group fishing with us this last week and I've enjoyed every minute in their company. They all caught carp as well, which was great...
For me, the week was capped off by Chris Elmey's capture of The Long Common at 41lb 6oz. It was his first UK 40+ and he caught it with a thoughtful and confident bit of angling, fishing a single rod on a spot in Tom's Pond. Take a bow Chris Elmey - well done!!

Time to fish has been scarce but simple rigs and a good quality bait can make up for that.....

Jamie Cook with the common known as Rags at just shy of 36lb from last week. Jamie only ever fishes one night sessions and is one of the best anglers I know. He goes about consistently catching some fantastic carp in a lovely quiet and understated way. It's always a pleasure to meet him on the bank and he's always good for a cold cider!

A fantastic week for Dan Smith with nine carp landed... Including 23lb and 45lb 8oz mirrors and commons of 25lb, 29lb, 35lb 8oz and 40lb 6oz.... Great fishing and great company; Ashmead at its best!
Summer fishing...

I've always loved the summer fishing on Ashmead... The lake always fishes well through July and August and, since I love stalking the carp at close quarters, this is the most exciting time to target individual fish....

Some of the young carp spawned in Ashmead since the restoration of the wetland are doing exceptionally well and some look set to out-grow the older stock.
